Analysis of SO2, CO, O3, NO2 and PM10 from major cities of South Korea using PCA and MLR

This study aims to reveal the origin of PM10 concentrations observed in major metropolitan cities in Korea. To explain the generation of PM10, climate conditions and concentration of air pollutants in major cities were analyzed using PCA analysis to figure out its correlation with PM10, and multiple linear regression models were proposed to describe PM10 concentrations. It was determined that combustion sources and photochemical production of O3 are the major sources of pollution from the data set and major correlation of these sources to PM10 are varying in some cities. Finally, PM10 levels for each city were modeled using stepwise MLR models. MLR model from correlation was also generated for three cities and it was evaluated by comparing 2018 Jan & Feb data resulting 0.258 for Seoul and 0.425 for Gwangju as a minimum value for N-S model efficiency coefficient (NSE).
